Little Red Lighthouse

Every year I take the train up to New York for the PhotoPlusExpo. Several friends from the New School of Photography forum drive down from RI and we make it to either a sunrise or sunset shoot the day of the Expo. Last year was Lefrak Lighthouse in Jersey City, one of two lighthouses surprisingly close to New York City.

Ben and Dave picked me up at my hotel early on Friday and we drove up to Riverside Park near the George Washington Bridge. The weater was pretty awful - raw cold, windy, and steady rain. I was particularly cold as we picked our way under the Henry Hudson Parkway and along the Fort Washington Park Greenway to the lighthouse.

Fortunately, just as the sun was rising the rain stopped and the clouds pulled back a bit to reveal a great blue/purple glow. Balancing umbrellas and fighting water droplets on our lenses, we managed a few pretty great shots of the sunrise, the lighthouse, the bridge, and the city to the south.
